Where Are They Now?

A look at our past winners and their current successes.

2006 - Mike Fisher
"Fantastic Fortune"
Winning the award for best short in 2006 was a real thrill. One thing that winning an award such as this can do is provide a much-needed shot in the arm for a lonely filmmaker! I tend to work alone on my animations, so it is nice to get such positive feedback on my work. As we all know, independent filmmaking can be a tough road to travel. Since that short ("Fantastic Fortune"), I've created another short, "Alpha Worm." As a matter of fact, I am going to Seattle in a few weeks to show this short at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame Short Film Festival. That trip should be a lot of fun. I am working on yet another short ("Invisible Master") and hope to have that out in the next 6-8 weeks.

2005 - Gary L. Watson
"AFTER TWILIGHT"
Currently I am in post-production on INSIDE THE OCTAGON 2, a documentary film telling the story of the MG Car Company in England after World War II.  This film is the sequel to INSIDE THE OCTAGON, M.G. 1921 –1945 which covered the pre-war years.   (www.insidetheoctagon.net) A feature-length version of AFTER TWILIGHT, the short film that won Best of Festival, is still in development.  (www.aftertwilightfilm.com)

2005 - John Tadeo
"Zoom Suit"
My last project was a novel - New York Stories - which is Sandlot/Bronxtale type of story focusing on one year of growing up in the lives of a crazy group of "tweens". Co-Ed Dorm is in negotiations for a TV series. Zoom Suit is in negotiations for an animated series and feature film. Zoomsuit comics can be downloaded free at www.superverse.com. I've also written a cocktail recipe book called 100 Margaritas which can be downloaded free at www.voodootiki.com

2004 - Peter Hawley
"What’s Two + Three?

My film “what’s two + three?” premiered at the Gulf Coast Film Festival in 2004 and from there it went on to a series of other festivals around the country.  In 2006 it was broadcast on PBS in many markets throughout the Midwest and was picked up for distribution by Aquarius Health Care Media which has sold it to schools and libraries across the country.  Recently I purchased the rights and  am in pre-production for a short film called “Found Objects” that appeared in the Dec. 10, 2007 issue of The New Yorker.  I plan on shooting the film this summer.  In addition to filmmaking, since 1996 I have been a college film professor, first at Columbia College and as of June 2007, I am the head of the film department at Flashpoint Academy a new media arts college in Chicago.

2003 - Josh Bass
"The Ninjews"

I finished  a half hour short that I'm trimming down in September of last year, and am currently getting it ready for festivals.  I have another short that I recut last year as well, and am getting ready to start sending it out, and I'm also working on another Ninjews, though it won't be done with claymation, but rather with 2D animation using  Anime Studio.
